Do you agree that excellence is mundane?

Taken from a published sociological theory study entitled "Mundanity of Excellence," I wanted to share it with you.

Excellence is mundane-

Excellence is accomplished through the doing of actions, ordinary in themselves, performed consistently and carefully, habitualized, compounded together, added up over time.

...these differences...taken one step at a time, are terribly difficult.

The author went on to say examples like:

  • the student came to class or practice on time
  • the actor attends one more audition
  • the businessperson went ahead and made a tough phone call
  • the unemployed worker writes one more letter
  • an injured runner decides to enter the race
  • a teenager asks for a date to the girl he's had the biggest crush on
The action in itself is n o t h i n g special.

...the care and consistency with which it is made is.

Hip-Hop 101

Thanks to a Christmas present from my cousin, I'm currently reading  Never Drank the Kool-Aid by Toure. He's an author, music journalist and you might remember him hosting Fuse's old show "Hiphop Shop."

Toure's book "chronicles [his] unparalleled journey through the American funhouse called pop culture."

I figured I might as well release my video I did back in November called "What is Hip-Hop?"

Enjoy.

Bookstore Thoughts
