On my personal climb to the top, I need to be reminded of a couple of things:

A Night for The Philippines #HaiyanRelief
Houston, TX- Local artist Matt Manalo teamed up with The Houston Collective on Saturday, December 14th to bring about a vision. Thousands of miles away from the devastation that occurred in the Philippines shy of two months ago, a night was dedicated to Typhoon Haiyan relief in the city of Houston. Brining together other local prominent artists on the scene, pieces were donated for an art show and silent auction.

Isabel Marant x H&M preview by Wheredidyougetthat
I've followed this Brit fashion blogger for years now and have watched her evolve from a blogger to Marie Claire segment host and beyond. Here she covers the November 14th launch of Isabel Marant for H&M.
The best part is seeing them on her because although the clothes look flawless on the rack, as a woman you want to know how things fit. It's a valuable second look as one can gauge from her body type (which is pretty average-slim) and see how it might look on yourself.
The post is on Blogger (hey girl!) here: Wheredidyougetthat
It would serve in your best interest to follow her for all the unique New York street fashion as well as the mainstream.

Look at this old school 1965 gem of St. John's cheerleaders.

The Lesson In Rejection
A couple years ago, I had applied to graduate school in hopes of pursuing a masters that would allow me to become a more credible journalist and gain an edge on chasing the "adjunct professor" status that I always dreamed about in college.

KickRaux x Harriet Thugman Mixtape x Interview
You're somewhat excused if your summer playlist didn't include a track from the DJ/Producer duo better known as KickRaux. A couple of telling signs that the two are gaining traction in the ever-growing genre of trap-hop/dancehall music could be the fact that right after releasing their first full mixtape Harriet Thugman on July 25th, MTV Hive featured their guest mix on the 'Freshman 15' mix a week later.
Get to know the guys who are more than likely remixing your favorite tracks right now, in an exclusive interview with The M Report ( *spoiler* freestyle session included). Download Harriet Thugman and more after the jump.

Decided to randomly share standout quotes from the current literature on deck. This "sharing of quotes" will be an on-going project as I've pretty much had this habit for years now. Here goes:
"We all want progress. But progress means getting nearer to the place where you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer."

New ALH SuperBowl XLVII Post!
As football season commenced after the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers at SuperBowl XLVII this past Sunday, I leave you with my ALH post.
This was a special story for me because even though I never met Ray Rice, I instantly enjoyed his story because of his personality.Football fans know of Rice's beastly skills, but it was more so what he shows away from the line of scrimmage that stood out to me.
If I'd ever meet the guy, I'd give him a high-five and tell him to continue inspiring those around him, especially the youth. I could share some pointers :)
Enjoy!

#NationalMentoringMonth
In support of National Mentoring Month, which is so fitting being that it falls in line with my birthday month, I want to say thank you to all the mentors out there.
There's only so many tangible outcomes that can measure the impact they make in the life of a child, or a student, or a young adult. But knowing that, mentors don't take no for an answer. They make the trip, they tackle the math problems and help face the adversities their mentee undertakes.
I'd like to call it paying it forward because I had a mentor throughout high school and it positively affected my life to this day. Nothing compares to someone who believes in you. So that maybe, just maybe, that person I met moons ago, might one day become a mentor to someone else.
Pay it forward. Make a difference.
